Pump hire questions

What pump do I need for a flooded site?

For rainwater on a slab or in a pit, a 50 mm submersible does most jobs. Big volumes step up to 100 mm. The real question is what's in the water — the moment there's mud, leaves or solids, you want a trash pump, not a clean-water pump with ambitions.

What's a trash pump?

A pump built to pass solids — mud, stones, debris — without blocking. Muddy excavations, stormwater pits and anything that smells bad are trash-pump territory. Clean-water pumps die quickly in that duty.

Do hoses come with it?

Quoted alongside — suction hose, layflat discharge and couplings matched to the pump. Measure the run from the water to wherever it's legally going and tell us the distance and any uphill.

Can it run unattended?

With a float switch, yes — the pump cuts in when water rises and off when it's done, which is how basements and pits ride out a wet week. Ask for the float when you book.

What power is needed?

50 mm pumps run from a standard outlet (mind the RCD); bigger electrics want 15 A or three-phase; diesel pumps need nothing but fuel. No power at the hole? Generator or diesel pump — we'll quote both.

Where can I pump the water?

Somewhere lawful — which usually means not straight into the stormwater system if it's dirty. Sites have their own discharge rules; silty water may need settling first. We supply the gear; your site's environmental controls govern the discharge point.
